Ryan was one of the first undergraduate students to work in my lab, working primarily on a project to automatically assess image quality for a diverse collection of image types.
June 2012 – August 2013 (1 year 3 months)
● Generated a local directory structure of website data using Perl
● Collected data from eye images using the Insight Segmentation and Registration Toolkit (ITK) with C++
● Identified and gathered image features from photos of the eye via machine learning algorithms in order to assess image quality
My current position is still at Iowa! I'm a master's student in the BME program, and I'm currently a teaching assistant for Systems, Instrumentation, and Data Acquisition. I first learned about the programmatic application of imaging techniques through your lab and with the help of Mark Christopher, and I am now taking a couple of classes pertinent to imaging. It was a good learning experience working in CBCB and helped with developing the ability to learn and apply knowledge independently, as well as developing research skills, which are very useful later on down the road.
