Director of Bioinformatics, WIVR
I am an Associate Professor in the Departments of Ophthalmology and Visual Sciences, and Biomedical Engineering. Among the many "hats" that I wear, I supervise the IT team within the clinical department of Ophthalmology, as well as serving as the Director of Bioinformatics for the Wynn Institute of Vision Research. I am also holder of the Hansjoerg EJW Kolder MD, PhD Professorship for Best Disease.
My research primarily focuses on the development and application of bioinformatics on vision-related projects. My PhD research focused on the large-scale gene discovery and mapping project in rat, culminating in the submission of hundreds of thousands of ESTs to public databases. Since then, my research projects have expanded to harnessing high-performance computing for genome-scale analyses; and the identification and genetic-association of image- and expression-based endophenotypes.
